With this year’s harvest season well underway, University of Illinois Extension 4-H Program and Kendall-Grundy Farm Bureau Urge Public Support for farmers across the county. Grundy youth and volunteers, supported by both programs, dedicated their Monday, October 10 to helping bring joy to farmers who may be dealing with a stressful time of year.

The Support-A-Farmer event, held at the Kendall Grundy Farm Bureau, packed over 300 bags with snacks, homemade baked goods, window decorations and more, including a message of support to all agricultural professionals in the community who work hard to feed Grundy County. Bags were delivered by young people to local elevators. Some bags were even delivered directly to farmers in field.

Resources to help support the farmer in your life can be found online from the Farm Bureau and Illinois Extension’s 4-H websites. For resources such as market price information, cash rent, farm documents and access to experts, visit extension.illinois.edu. Resources of the Kendall-Grundy Farm Bureau are available online at: kendallgrundyfb.com.

According to a survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation, financial problems (91%), fear of losing the farm (87%) and farm/business issues (88%) all impact mental health farmers. If you, or others you know, are dealing with the stress of harvesting, help is available.
